AMERICA'S RICHEST AND WORLD RICHEST

On September 20th, Forbes released the 2007 Forbes 400 Richest People in America list. Also making it's inaugural release, is The REAL Richest People, who are making a difference. This list will focus on richness in giving with the aim of inspiring businesses and individuals to give of their profits and their time.

Recipients were selected not because of what they have but because of what they give. “True richness comes from the love of giving back to society and happens whether you make $10,000 or $10 million a year,” says list founder Tim Richardson.

The people on the list reflect the best about the joy of giving back to others by using their time, talents, and resources to make a difference in the world.

Nominees include a woman who has devoted her life to helping those suffering in war-torn countries, a man who was living in his car at age 18 but now is financially independent and working to eradicate poverty in the world, a twenty-something-year-old who founded an organization to educate children all over the world, a coffee-growing company that uses its profits to help educate people in the coffee growing regions of the world, and a former Microsoft VP who is setting up libraries in remote villages all over the world.

Inspirational speaker Tim Richardson compiled the list with the help of a volunteer team who looked throughout the US to find people who believe that REAL Richness comes from giving. The goal of the project is to change the perception of what it means to be rich by sharing a new message of wealth with the world. Richardson is also spear-heading the World's Biggest Blog Party, a project to try to raise over a million dollars for a number of charities. The project will use bloggers to write about people making a difference and the great work of philanthropic organizations, both small and large.

This positive project aims to redefine richness and focus media attention on internal rather than external wealth. After all, Richardson says, "It's not about how good you are, it's about what good you do."

THE RICHEST PERSON IN THE WORLD
1. William H. Gates III

Age: 43
Nationality: American
Martial Status: Married
Children: 2
Education: Harvard dropout
Worth: $90 Billion

We should all just face the fact that Bill Gates will one day rule the world. By the time Windows 2015 comes out, all will fear Bill's wrath. But you gotta admit that it doesn't look like it went to his head; the richest human on Earth, and he has the dorkiest haircut money could buy.

The son of a lawyer father and teacher mother, Gates dropped out of preschool to devote all of his time to inventing Microsoft with chum Paul Allen, then just 3 years old. After drooling all over the HVAC tubes, Bill decided to go back to school for a few more years, eventually dropping out of Harvard University to work on Microsoft.

The rest, as they all too frequently say, is history. Microsoft became this huge international corporate behemoth, and is currently fighting off anti-trust investigations and accusations that it holds a monopoly. When Bill rules the world, he's going to come down and fire those federal court judges with extreme prejudice. They'll never work on his planet again!

Gates relinquished his role as President of Microsoft in 1998, and as CEO on January 13, 2000; both posts are now held by Steve Ballmer. However, Bill remains Chairman and "chief software architect" of the company, as well as its largest shareholder. So they still let him come to board meetings.

Mr. Bill once gave $17 Billion to charity, which makes Ted Turner's paltry offering of $1 billion to the UN look like chump change. He's also written a couple of books and is heavily invested in biotechnology and cellular and satellite technology. Investors, call your brokers.

Biography - Information

Warren Buffett has become the richest man in the world according to the Forbes business magazine which ranks the billionaires of the world each year. The famous stock market investor has long been denied the number position by his friend and bridge playing partner Bill Gates.

Bill Gates held the number one position on the world rich list for the past thirteen years in a row. The Microsoft billionaire didn't see his fortune disappear over the past twelve months, his wealth just didn't grow as quickly as the world's most famous value investor. Mr. Microsoft is still worth an impressive $58 billion, which is an increase of $2 billion over the past year. Gates is now in third place with the richest Mexican Carlos Slim Helu taking second place.

If investors in Microsoft were happier with its bid for the Internet company Yahoo! Gates may still have held onto his number one position on the global rich list. Since Microsoft made a bid for Yahoo! towards the end of January through to the Forbes cutoff date on the 11th of February Microsoft saw its share price head south by 15%, which may have been enough to knock Bill Gates off of his perch.

Warren Buffett's company Berkshire Hathaway has seen its share price increasing despite the turmoil that has hit world share markets over the past 12 months. Buffett saw his personal fortune rise by $10 billion, giving him a net worth of $62 billion.

Forbes Rich List - The Richest Americans in 2006

The four hundred richest Americans have been ranked by the Forbes business magazine for 2006. It is now no longer enough to be just a multi-millionaire to appear on the list, you now have to be a billionaire to qualify. The group of 400 American billionaires increased their collective wealth by an impressive $120 billion, to have a total of $1.25 trillion US dollars!

There's no surprises at the top of the list, with the world's richest man reclaiming his number one position for yet another year. Bill Gates increased his fortune by a couple billion to have an estimated $53 billion this year. After more than 30 years at Microsoft, Gates plans to step aside from most of his responsibilities at the software giant. He announced that in 2008 he will be giving all his attention to the "Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation".

The decision by Bill Gates to devote himself to his foundation may have influenced the decision of his friend and bridge partner to give most of his billions to the Gates Foundation. In June this year Warren Buffett said he would be donating about 85% of his wealth to five different foundations, with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation receiving the bulk of it. Buffett remains the second richest man in America, with an impressive increase of $6 billion.

Third richest American is the Las Vegas casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson. Since taking Las Vegas Sands public just a couple years ago, the son of a cabbie has seen his shares rise by 125% and his total fortune balloon to $20.5 billion. His wealth is up $9 billion from last year and he also had the largest gain on the rich 400 list.

The remaining top ten richest Americans includes a list of people familiar with being in the top ten. They were Larry Ellison in fourth with an increase to $19.5 billion, Paul Allen losing a couple positions and a few billion in fifth with $16 billion, the Walton family taking sixth, seventh eighth, and tenth positions, while Michael Dell is in ninth position after losing about $2.5 billion over the past 12 months.

Technology played a major role again with the usual list of tech billionaires like Paul Allen, Larry Ellison, Jeff Bezos, Steve Ballmer and Pierre Omidyar representing tech companies like Ebay, Amazon.com, Microsoft and Oracle.

The youngest on the list were again the Google founders Larry Page with $14 billion and Sergey Brin with $14.1 billion. At just 33 years of age they are the twelfth and thirteenth richest people in the United States. Other youngsters on the list Included Yahoo's Jerry Yang at age 37 in position 140, and eBay's Pierre Omidyar at age 39 in position 32.

This was Forbes 25th year of profiling the richest Americans and the fourth consecutive year of increases in the combined wealth of the 400 wealthiest Americans.
